No Opposition in Nagaland Assembly.

The Naga People Front [NPF] the only state opposition party in Nagaland has inducted with the current ruling state party “Nationalist Democratic Progressive party” [NNDP] headed by the chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday. The purpose of the coalition is to “work collectively towards achieving a peaceful and harmonious solution” for the drawn-out Naga political issue running for 24 years by now. The Naga political issue is related to the process of achieving peace with several extremist groups, mainly the Isak-Muivah clique of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, who is acting as a great barrier in making an effective decision. Such decision was made after the sit-down meeting session held on Monday with the leaders of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party [NDPP], Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP], and Naga People Front party [NFP] regarding initiating the concept of “United Government” for achieving a Harmonious solution to the Naga Political issue.

The Nagaland house has shifted from 60 seats to 59 seats after the death of an MLA, Still holding an effective strength in the house. In the year 2018, the only opposition state party NPF has won 28 seats in the state assembly election, but it has suspended seven of its ministers for associating with the running party NNDP. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party has previously formed a “People’s Democratic Alliances” government the [PDA] with Bharatiya Janata Party and two other independent state parties which formulated to 34 MLA’s in total.

Later after the coalition of the Naga People Front party with Nationalist Democratic Progressive party the “People’s Democratic Alliances” which was formed was renamed as “Nagaland united Government’.

There was also a joint statement holding 12 signatories including Deputy Chief Minister, senior BJP leader Yangthungo Patton and NPF veteran T.R. Zeliang, a former Chief Minister stating that such decision of “opposition-less united government” and the renaming of “People’s Democratic Alliance [PDA] to “Nagaland United Government” was approved by all the parties and partners included in People’s Domestic Alliance’s [PDA] which includes Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party [NDPP], Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] and two other Independent MLAs Support for PDA government. The said Joint statement does not include the current Chief Minister Mr. Neiphiu Rio as a signatory of the said statement. The said statement has also stated that the Political parties shall appeal to all Naga political groups to make a grim effect towards initiating “unity” and “reconciliation”. Future the statement states it is the responsibility of the parties to ensure the unity of their members in the assembly.

The statement also states that “the ruling parties would excel upon the Central government and all negotiating groups to bring about the solution to a logical end”. The Core Committee set by the Parliamentary Committee regarding the Naga Political Issue had earlier set on and confirmed the move towards a joint united approach for attaining the solution for Naga political issue. The legislation party of the National People Front [NFP] has also ratified the concept of Opposition Less Government.
